The placement is a key part of the program where students build on their professional skills and receive valuable mentorship through real-world employment experience. In partnering with the Career Pathways program, the community partner benefits from working with students with a unique perspective who are reliable, supportive, and empathetic. It also provides the community partner with exposure to the benefits of neurodiversity in the workplace, reinforcing the importance of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

In these varied settings, students will engage with children, families, staff, and other professionals. Students will be supported throughout their field placement experience by further enhancing their understanding of Pedagogy for the Early Years with a focus on the four foundations: Belonging, Well-Being, Engagement, and Expression. Students are available for up to 26 hours per week (unpaid) of placement project time from January 22 to March 21 (Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays) in a virtual capacity only.

As a “professional in training”, our students are ready to help out in various ways, developing their skills, knowledge, and attitudes that are necessary to enter the field as an addiction and mental health worker practitioner. We are looking for placement sites where students can apply in practice the concepts and theories learned in the classroom. The students have learned in the classroom about many aspects of addiction and mental health work, including interpersonal skills, counseling, group facilitation, harm reduction, and case management. Please note that all of our students will have their Vulnerable Sector Screening completed. The students are available for 200 hours of unpaid, for-credit work experience beginning in March, 2024

The Capstone projects will be completed in groups of 2 to 4 students over two semesters starting in the winter semester (January 2025) and concluding at the end of the summer semester (August 2025). The winter course will focus on students choosing a project, collecting requirements, formulating a design, doing some project planning and building a very rudimentary prototype system. During the spring/summer semester, students will complete the implementation, test and deploy their final projects.
