Charting a course towards sustainability for Canada's Food Trucks

Canada's Food Truck industry is a dynamic and diverse field, constantly introducing new offerings to the market. However, it's important to recognize that food trucks are primarily small businesses, and their owners/operators are heavily involved in day-to-day operations. This includes tasks such as menu development, scouting for ideal locations, and managing various catering and special event opportunities. Amidst these challenges, sustainability might not always be at the forefront of their minds. This is where YOU come in. Students will receive a comprehensive overview of food truck operations, which may include on-site or virtual visits, to gain a thorough understanding of the facilities, resources, and overall environmental impact of these businesses. Ideally, students will conduct assessments of these operations and provide evidence-based recommendations on how these businesses can align with the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). Creating a practical and tactical plan, along with setting achievable goals, will be crucial in this process. Moreover, the broader objective of this project is to gather sufficient data to develop a set of tools that can be utilized by the entire sector to evaluate their current sustainability status and chart their course towards a more sustainable future.

Directing the "Look and Feel" of Canada's Food Truck Photography and Marketing

Project Description: The Food Trucks Association of Canada aims to revolutionize how food trucks are represented through photography. We have some real challenges - in the volumes of stock photography, many "staged" photos lack a critical lens on capturing important elements like food safety practices, or infection control measures, which aren't at all realistic. We're proposing a project where students develop comprehensive brand guidelines for food truck photography that also respects industry best practices. Additionally, students will create a captivating campaign encouraging food truck operators to submit photos of their trucks and food offerings. This campaign will not only enhance the association's stock photography collective but also educate operators on leveraging photography to showcase their businesses effectively, and understanding when their phone photography is suitable, and when to engage a photography professional.

Data Science Project: Food Cost Impacts on Business Planning (Team 1)

We are excited to present you with an engaging and meaningful capstone project that will challenge your data analysis skills and provide valuable insights for food truck operators in the face of rising food costs. Your work will be instrumental in aiding these businesses in their planning and decision-making processes. Project Overview: The capstone project revolves around the analysis of rising food costs and their impacts on food truck operators. We have divided this project into two teams, each focusing on specific aspects to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the issue. Your team's focus will be on the food cost aspect of this issue. Team 2's focus will be on consumer demand, spending and trends and will make recommendations on menus from that perspective. Cross-collaboration between the two teams is strongly encouraged. Analyzing Trendlines in Overall Food Costs: Your team's primary objective is to evaluate the trendlines in overall food costs, with a specific focus on those foods that have experienced significant and sustained price increases over a period of three months or more. This analysis will serve as the foundation for providing actionable recommendations to food truck operators. Project Scope and Tasks: Data Collection: Start by gathering relevant datasets related to food prices. Ensure that the data is up-to-date and covers a substantial period to capture trends accurately. An exploration of OpenData from Canadian Government sources is strongly encouraged. Data Analysis: Utilize advanced data analysis techniques to identify foods that have shown consistent price increases for three months or more. This will require statistical analysis and visualization to present your findings effectively. Menu Recommendations: Based on your analysis, provide food truck operators with recommendations on which foods might be better suited for building menus. Consider factors such as price stability, consumer interest, and potential profit margins. Consumer Trends: Explore consumer preferences and trends in the food industry. This will help food truck operators align their offerings with what customers are looking for. Presentation: Prepare a comprehensive report and presentation summarizing your findings and recommendations. Your presentation should be engaging and easy to understand. Data Sharing: Collaboration and knowledge sharing are encouraged to enhance the overall project's quality. Timeline: Please note that this is a Capstone-level project, and we expect a high level of rigor and professionalism. A project timeline should provide the following milestones at minimum. Data Collection and Preprocessing: [Specify start and end dates] Data Analysis: [Specify start and end dates] Recommendations and Report Writing: [Specify start and end dates] Presentation: [Specify presentation date] Key Takeaways: Focus on identifying foods with sustained price increases and providing recommendations for food truck menus. Project Brief for Master's Level Data Analysis Capstone Projects (Team 2) We are excited to provide you with a challenging and impactful Capstone project that complements Team 1's efforts in analyzing rising food costs and their implications for food truck operators. Your focus will be on the consumer side of the equation, and your insights will be invaluable for food truck operators in aligning their offerings with consumer trends and demands. MBA and Business Program Students - Sustainability for today's Nonprofits

The Great Resignation has led to a greater willingness to leave traditional jobs for careers that offer greater personal fulfillment. This, in turn, has created a more competitive job market for recent graduates and soon-to-be graduates, who are seeking careers that align with their values and offer a sense of purpose. The nonprofit, charitable, and NGO (non-governmental organization) sector is one that has traditionally been attractive to individuals seeking purpose and fulfillment in their careers. The sector is characterized by a mission-driven culture and a focus on making a positive impact on society, which aligns well with the values and goals of many people looking for meaningful work. Careers in the nonprofit sector can also be challenging, as many organizations operate on limited budgets and have limited resources. This project aims to leverage student learnings, to provide greater resource stability and sustainability for mission-driven organizations, like trade associations.
