Students from the College of the North Atlantic in HN2210 and HN3110 will develop a targeted HR strategic analysis for an industry partner (i.e., local companies, community organizations, government agencies, NGOs). Students will research, develop and present a seminar/paper on selected topics from among the following areas explored in the courses:

  • human resource management
  • industrial relations
  • recruitment and selection
  • occupational health and safety
  • employment and labour law
  • collective agreement administration
  • attendance and disability management
  • compensation and benefits
  • human resource planning
  • and dispute resolution.

Students (in Teams of 4) will have some 4 hours per week of class time (16 person hours per week over 10 weeks = 160 person hours) dedicated to such research and development as it might apply to a specific organization or business.... and will present a research paper and 1-hour presentation on same.

Requirements

Students have completed courses in ecah of the above noted topics, and this year have already completed "live" strategic plans for real world organizations and are currently working on 8-month business plans. These students are concluding their 3-year Business Management (HR) Diploma this Term, Winter 2022.

Additional company criteria

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

A representative of the company will be available to answer questions from students in a timely manner for the duration of the project.

A representative of the company will be available for a pre-selection discussion with the administrator of the course to review the project scope.
