reference data civil engineering research cladding (construction)Positions available: Two civil engineering undergrad or master's student interns.
Intern 1 - 64 hours
1. Seismic Loads for Building Wall Cladding according to NBC 2020 (published this year).
1.1. NBC-2020 Increased Reference Data Sa(0.2) and PGA for Pacific Coast (Vancouver Island and Greater Vancouver)
1.2 New methodology for defining Fa and hence SHI (Seismic Hazard Index)
1.3. Resulting Specified Design Loads - "Static" Horizontal Forces for heavy natural stone wall cladding installed at different stories of a high-rise building.
Intern 2 - 64 hours
2. Wind Loads for Wall Cladding of a high-rise building (NBC 2020).
2.1 Reference Data q1/50 for Pacific Coast. Ce for open terrain - growth with elevation
2.2 CpCg factors - growth with elevation and 'gap jump' at 20m
2.3 Resulting Specified Wind Loads for high-rises wall cladding.
Both Interns in a group -16 hours each
Comparative analysis: Specified Wind Loads vs. Specified Seismic Loads for the same wall cladding of a high-rise building.
To accomplish this, we expect the student(s) will:
- Data research and analysis.
- Report.
- Presentation.
Ultimately, you will help to improve our company products supporting growth.

Total hours 64+64+32=160
We believe this is a good study project for 2 civil students (for 80 hours each)
The next phase of this project - is the development of an automated Excel Spreadsheet for Specified Loads on Wall Cladding to NBC2020 (Freeware Utility for Canadian Structural Engineers)
If you like the sound of our culture and are ready to tackle this challenge with us, then we'd love to hear from you.
Supervision, mentorship, and technical support will be available.
