NOTICE: We are no longer accepting applications for the spring semester. You are welcome to apply if you wish to work in the summer/fall.
With the COVID-19 pandemic, funding has been tight and we are spread too thin to get the data cleaning, screening, and analysis (as well as report writing if interested?) done for multiple research projects that are currently pending analysis of data.
We’d like students to assist Dr. Edwards in helping clean up and analyze our datasets to draw helpful insights and make graphics, reports, and other media that will allow us to share our findings.
From this analysis, we hope to share insights from our data that can help inspire and promote positive social change. The data sets in-hand currently include items relating to the COVID-19 pandemic impact on mental health and wellbeing, teachers, workers, and more (sorry, no biological data!).
Students need to have access to either SPSS or MaxQDA, or will need to be able to purchase a student subscription (approx $50 USD for 6-months access) to either upon starting the internship.
Each student will be assigned to assist Dr. Edwards on a single dataset/project.
Students will collaborate with Dr. Edwards primarily via Slack, text, and video calls (Jit.si, Google Meet, and/or Zoom may be used - we will provide the link).
Students need to be self-motivated and are required to practice professional behaviors and soft skills such as communication, time management, and teamwork in the following ways:
1) to touch base 1-2 times per week via Slack with Dr. Edwards to provide status updates on work, if stuck, on what. Providing screenshots is very helpful.
2) if stuck or needing clarification, to be willing to notify Dr. Edwards as soon as possible. If a live call is needed, student will work with her assistant to schedule a live call to resolve in a timely manner.
I provide a high level of supervision and mentorship via text and live calls. Interns often work with me during "live" work sessions which are like live office hours where I am available to share screens, give guidance, troubleshoot, review/etc.
I have 20+ years experience in business and marketing, an MBA and PhD. You can read more about me if you look me up on LinkedIn or look at my CV at www.alicevoedwards.com
I also provide career mentoring and strategic career planning guidance and support. For example, I helped one student who had changed his major but really didn't know what to do with the new one, think through what his skills and interests were, how they would align with a job, review jobs and their criteria, and discuss the specific work he could do on my internship/project and how he could use that towards demonstrating what the jobs he was looking at trying to get hired for, would want to see.
