detail oriented effective communication mathematics canva (software) infographics graphic communication graphic design solutions focused visual design brandingWe want to develop and create a series of clear, informative, graphic resources to guide students through activities that encourage the success of Indigenous undergraduate students in College of Arts and Science academic programs; for example, "Start strong; preparing for your first term", "Understanding ISAP's sign-up and registration process", "Sharing your Post-secondary experience with your support network", "Charting your "math path"", "Making the most of mentorship, becoming a mentor!"
The selected student would be provided with data and existing text-based resources to translate into accessible visual resources. The selected student would develop 4-8 info-graphic posters, using common graphic design platform (Canva or PUB), pitch these to the ISAP staff and Arts and Science undergraduate student office teams at a midway point, and then make final revisions to produce completed resources as an endpoint to the project.
Students will need skills related to logical and sequential reasoning, a process-oriented approach to knowledge translation, and be familiar with principles of graphic communication and visual design. Experience using Canvas, Adove Illustrator, Publisher, or GIMP will be a strong asset. In addition, the student will need to utilize effective communication strategies to solicit candid feedback from the ISAP and Arts and Science UGSO teams, and have a product- and solution-focused perseverance through revision toward end product images. ISAP has current visual branding elements which will be integrated into the design of the infographics, but there is amble room for creative visual design. We hope to find a motivated, creative, and detail-oriented student to work with our team.
Students will be provided with existing data and text-based resources and will work alongside members of the ISAP staff team to select important content for this infographic development project. The ISAP staff team will, further, provide logistic support for consultation and feedback sessions on the graphic materials prepared by the student(s).
Office space is available within the Trish Monture Centre, at the USask Saskatoon Campus, in the Arts Tower (Arts 250). Students will be provided with licensed access to the selected graphic design software, as well as access to computers as required - either in the Trish Monture Centre, or within alternate Arts and Science facility spaces. Students with home access to the internet and appropriate laptops or desk computers are invited to work remotely if they choose.
