Positions available: Two students

HPCO is currently working on our Strategic Plan 2020-2023. Principles embedded in the strategic plan framework include:

  • Embrace and use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve efficiencies, engagement, and data analytics wherever feasible within the plans.
  • Embrace Mobile First for all technical platforms, enabling members, customers, and stakeholders to fully access our products and service from mobile devices.
  • Collaborate with organization that excel in data analytics and research.

One of our existing data and analytic offerings is our Hospice Metrics Platform (A Voice for Change), which offers a suite of: outcome and impact measures, data collection methods and analysis tools. Together, this information demonstrates the impact and value of hospice services.

Aligned with the Health Quality Ontario dimensions of quality in health care and HPCO’s Accreditation framework, the Metrics Platform is focused on improving the patient and provider experience through the delivery of high-value palliative care.

Opportunities will be customized to the student’s interest and may include:

A. Support further development of our Hospice Metrics Platform

  • Develop and support the work of an informatics advisory committee
  • Identify and develop new indicators to add to the Metrics Platform
  • Review use of the Metrics Platform by organizational members and develop and implement strategies to increase use

B. Support quality improvement (QI) initiatives

  • Review the QI plan and ongoing compliance requirements of the HPCO Accreditation program and develop recommendations to advance QI among our accredited members
  • Develop an inventory of QI tools and resources specific to hospice palliative care that would add value to the QI efforts of our member organizations
  • Support further integration of the Metrics Platform with the Accreditation framework

C. Review existing product offerings and make recommendations on use of AI to enhance efficiencies

Position Qualifications:

  • A health informatics student with specific interest in the health care sector; knowledge of hospice palliative care is an asset
  • Project management training or experience
  • Strong qualitative and quantitative analytic and problem-solving skills
  • Highly motivated and takes initiative, while holding oneself accountable
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated well-developed interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational, time management and office management skills

Mentorship

Students will report to the Director, Centre for Excellence and meet weekly 1:1. Students will also work directly with the staff team and meet with individuals on this team as required.
