Learner goals and capabilities

This Digital Transformation Management cohort is funded by Riipen's Level UP program.

Students will complete the Digital Transformation Management (DTM) program founded by Simon Fraser University’s Beedie School of Business to help them with their project. Some of the tasks learners will need to complete to achieve the project goals may include:

  • Develop a value proposition statement for the organization/unit
  • Create a process map and a customer journey/empathy map
  • Explore technology options (e.g., application integration, customer experience)
  • Identify KPIs for the process and create options for improvement
  • Analyze the options using a decision matrix and recommend change
  • Create a draft project plan
  • Identify bottlenecks and possible mitigation strategies for the project proposal

The skills developed in the DTM program will support students in the completion of the project. The technologies required will be introduced and provided in the DTM program.

Throughout the project participant teams will work directly with the participating organizational contact/project mentor who will provide information and regular feedback. DTM faculty will also provide feedback and guide students in the proper application of the concepts.

Students can complete this project without any prior knowledge of the company or business unit and their processes but will be expected to research and learn as the project evolves.

  • If your project is selected, you will be invited to join an onboarding session that will take place the week of March 31.
  • Students will be assigned to your project after April 10th. Each project will include two teams of three students.
  • Project must start by April 21, 2025 and must be completed by July 4, 2025.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

Participants will complete the Digital Transformation Management (DTM) program founded by Simon Fraser University’s Beedie School of Business to help them with their project. Participants in the DTM program learn and practice technology, business process, and communication skills to enhance their ability to contribute to digital transformation.

Deliverables:

Throughout the project, participants will complete the following activities:

  • Develop a value proposition statement for the organization/unit
  • Create a process map and a customer journey/empathy map
  • Explore technology options (e.g., application integration, customer experience)
  • Identify KPIs for the process and create options for improvement
  • Analyze the options using a decision matrix and recommend change
  • Create a draft project plan
  • Identify bottlenecks and possible mitigation strategies for the project proposal

These activities and the assignments in the DTM program (approx. 8 hours) will build towards creating the material for the final project deliverable and count towards the total 60 hours of work.

The final project deliverable is a 10-20 slide PowerPoint presentation and an optional 10-minute pitch to the employer detailing the current process and their recommendation for change.

Participant groups will work directly with participating host organizations throughout the project to provide information and regular feedback.

DTM faculty will also provide feedback and guide participants in the proper application of the concepts.

Participants can complete this project without any prior knowledge of the company or business unit and their processes but will be expected to research and learn as the project evolves.

Project Examples

Requirements

Examples of Process Improvement Projects:

  • Process: We are sending out email campaigns (to attract new clients) for ___ but experiencing low response rates….”
  • Process: Our funders for our non-profit aren’t aware of our presence outside of the lower mainland. This prevents them from understanding the scope of our organization’s activities...
  • Process: It takes a long time for our prospective clients to be converted to customers. This prevents us from getting new business more quickly.
  • Process: Onboarding our volunteers includes many steps and is largely paper based. This causes long periods of wait times for our prospective volunteers, and can cause the momentum to join to be lost
