The Small Business Institute provides learners the opportunity to act in a management consult relationship with selected regional entrepreneurial, owner-managed, or not-for-profit organizations, assisting the organization with strategy development, market research, operations Assessment, and implementation recommendations.  


Learners in this program/experience will work in teams to assist small businesses/organizations. These companies have wide-ranging needs, including market research, business planning, operational issues, and market planning.

Deliverables are negotiable, and will seek to align the needs of the learners and the organization. 


Some final project deliverables might include: 

  1. A 20-30 minute presentation on key findings and recommendations
  2. A detailed report including their research, analysis, insights and recommendations

Requirements

Learners in groups of 3-5 will work with your company to identify your needs and provide actionable recommendations based on their in-depth research and analysis, supported by experienced faculty.


Project activities that learners can complete may include, but are not limited to: 

  • Conducting market research or a business landscape analysis
  • Developing a business or marketing plan
  • Evaluating an organization’s impact on a community and region
  • Assessing the organizations systems and processes
  • Providing value-added recommendations that fit into the context of a client’s business
