Bring on students from Bow Valley College to be your student-consultants, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one main project over the course of the semester, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.
This course focuses on the knowledge, attitudes, skills, and behaviours for appropriate and effective intercultural communication in diverse workplaces. Learners explore the importance of a global and ethnorelative perspective linking the concepts to their lived experiences. Areas of focus include cultural influences on communication, conflict styles, self-awareness, acculturation, and Indigenous worldviews
Learners
Deliverables are negotiable, and will seek to align the needs of the students and the organization.
Some final project deliverables might include:
- A 10-15 minute presentation on key findings and recommendations
- A detailed report including their research, analysis, insights and recommendations

Project Examples
Requirements
Students in groups of 5-6 will work with your company to identify your needs and provide actionable recommendations, based on their in-depth research and analysis.
Project activities that students can complete may include, but are not limited to:
- Articulate the complexity of identity and self-concept to explore how perspectives and behaviours are shaped.
- Examine assumptions and biases and their impact on intercultural competence.
- Examine acculturation and acculturative stress from individual and social perspectives.
- Demonstrate an understanding of intercultural competency development as a life-long process, requiring curiosity, openness and respect towards all cultural orientations.
- Adapt communication and behaviour in intercultural interactions in both physical and virtual environments.
- Examine interculturally significant issues affecting the Indigenous Peoples in Canada from First Nations, Métis, and/or Inuit (FNMI) worldviews and perspectives.
Additional company criteria
Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:
A representative of the company will be available for a pre-selection discussion with the administrator of the course to review the project scope.
A representative of the company will be available to answer questions from students in a timely manner for the duration of the project.
Provide an opportunity for students to present their work and receive feedback.
Provide relevant information/data as needed for the project.
