Students will work on design, finite element modelling, analysis of thin-walled metallic structures such as liquid-filled storage thanks subjected to severe environmental (seismic, tsunami, tornado) loading. Structural stability issues including interaction of local and overall flexural buckling will be analyzed and buckling mitigation strategies will be developed to enhance strength and ductility of such structural systems.
