Details

The Ubuntu Neighbourhood Organization aims to design a comprehensive project plan for a youth-focused technology program. The primary goal is to equip young participants with essential programming skills and software proficiency, thereby empowering them for future educational and career opportunities in the tech field. This project addresses the growing demand for tech-savvy individuals and seeks to bridge the digital skills gap among youth in the community. By focusing on foundational programming languages and widely-used software tools, the program will provide participants with practical knowledge that can be directly applied in real-world scenarios. The project will involve researching effective teaching methodologies, identifying key learning outcomes, and creating a structured curriculum that aligns with industry standards. The ultimate aim is to foster a supportive learning environment that encourages curiosity, creativity, and confidence in technology.

Deliverables

The project will result in a detailed project plan for the Youth Tech Empowerment Program. UNO is a Youth-Led Non-Profit Organization that was created to provide a safe space for youth to feel welcome and wanted in a city where such spaces are hard to find. This was needed more than ever in our community as we are currently facing rapid gentrification and no place that served as a hub for the long standing members of lower income families in the community. We offer a variety of programs, workshops, and projects within our space dedicated to youth development.

We serve as a focal point for the community as a place to be and a town square of sorts where people of all backgrounds can feel at home without the feeling of being unwelcome, unwanted or neglected. The feeling of ostracization was becoming all too common and the disconnect between different generations of youth with shared experiences was felt. So the youth that lead UNO took a stand and created this safe space so that mentorship and togetherness that was once ever-present could be brought back in our community.
