Details

Looking to elevate your business, and bring it to the next level? Bring on students from Portage College to be your student-consultants, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one or more projects of your choosing over the partnership period, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.

Students in this course on Project Management will be introduced to the industry-standard principles for managing projects on time, on budget, and to the organization’s satisfaction. Students will cover the entire lifecycle from conceptualization to termination, with emphasis on project scope management, project time management, and project management planning and control. This curriculum will provide the basic tools for successfully managing any type of project regardless of the industry, scope, environment, complexity, culture, or whether it is a public or private project.

Deliverables
The final project deliverables might include:
  1. A 10-15 minute presentation of key findings and recommendations.
  2. A detailed report including their research, analysis, insights, and recommendations.
Project Examples

Students in groups of 4 will work with your company to identify your needs and provide actionable recommendations, based on their in-depth research and analysis.

Each team must do the following:

  • Selecting a company and identifying a/the project manager for that company
  • Approaching the project manager to request for them to complete a survey and a face-to-face interview
  • Analyzing the results of their survey and interview
  • Presenting the results of their work, both verbally in a presentation and in written form in a project report
Additional company criteria

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

Be available for a quick phone/virtual call with the instructor to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the course.

Provide a dedicated contact person who is available for weekly/bi-weekly drop-ins to address students’ questions as well as periodic messages over the duration of the project.

Be available for at least 2 follow-up meetings with the students to monitor progress, clarify doubts, and answer questions.

Provide an opportunity for students to present their work and receive feedback.

Provide relevant information/data as needed for the project.
